The 2022 NBA Draft was supposed to have a ton of drama and trades throughout the draft. If you were watching and waiting for those to happen, you may have been disappointed. Still, there were some moves and picks that surprised people that we break down here.
Paolo Banchero Goes No. 1
Banchero was one of the top options to be drafted No. 1 throughout the college basketball season. However, in the last couple of months, not many people were talking about Banchero as the first player to be taken. Most people thought he would go third. Banchero jumped up to No. 1 on Thursday to be taken by the Orlando Magic.
Jabari Smith Jr. Slides to No. 3
Smith Jr. was expected to be taken with the first overall pick. Then at pick two, he was still not drafted as the Thunder took Chet Holmgren. The Rockets were ecstatic that Smith Jr. fell to them at three, and they could have gotten the best player in the draft.
Kemba Walker Traded to the Pistons
In a three-team trade that is too convoluted to fully breakdown, the Knicks traded Kemba Walker and picks to the Pistons and Hornets for the No. 13 pick, Jalen Duren. The Pistons are expected to buyout Walker.
76ers Trade for Deanthony Melton
The 76ers made a trade packaging Danny Green and the No. 23 pick to the Grizzlies for the young shooting guard, Deanthony Melton.
