3 NBA Players Who Could Breakout Next Year

Gonzaga Bulldogs guard Hunter Sallis (10) comes away with a defensive rebound after a missed shot by UCLA Bruins guard Jaylen Clark (0) and makes an outlet pass; Gonzaga defeats UCLA Basketball 83-63, November 23, 2021, Las Vegas, NV.

Chet Holmgren Thunder

Before Chet Holmgren’s NBA rookie season even began it was over. He injured his foot in a pro-am game in the summer and was then ruled out shortly after that for the entire season. Oklahoma City surprised some people at the end of this season with rookie Jalen Williams playing really good basketball along with the Thunder’s two other stars, Shai Gilgeous Alexander and Josh Giddey. Holmgren can be an elite defensive player who would fit in nicely with this team to possibly make them a playoff team next year.

Johnny Davis Wizards

The big question with Johnny Davis is if he can be the point guard that the Wizards have been searching for? Davis showed at the end of the season that he can be an effective player in this league. If he can further develop his point guard skills he could make for a great pairing next to Bradley Beal next year. He is big and plays great defense. His slashing and playmaking was also on display at times when he started.

Bennedict Mathurin Pacers

It was a stellar rookie season for Bennedict Mathurin, but can he take his game to the next level? He averaged nearly 17 points per game as a rookie but has the potential to average 25. With him and Tyrese Haliburton in the same backcourt, it could be a dangerous duo for years to come in Indiana.
