One of the greatest hockey players in the world and best NHL players to ever play is closing in on 800 career goals. It has been quite a career so far for Ovechkin and it will be an extremely impressive feat when he does eventually hit the milestone.
Currently Ovechkin finds himself just three goals short of the 800 mark with 797. His next chance to get the milestone will be on Tuesday, December 13th where he will need a hat trick to get there. So far this season he has 17 goals and has scored two goals three times already. He has yet to score three in a game though this year. It would be a great way to hit 800 goals.
As of Monday, Ovechkin is third in all-time goals scored. He is still behind Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe. Howe has just 801 goals and Gretzky has a whopping 897. Ovechkin has a ways to go to pass Gretzky but could pass Howe within the next few weeks and break 800 goals within just a couple weeks.
As far as getting hat tricks, Ovechkin has 28 in his career. It would be a crazy way to get 800 goals or to pass Howe. We will be keeping a close eye on Ovechkin as he nears both of these milestones.
