The Cleveland Cavaliers just traded a wealth of their future assets to acquire the three-time NBA All Star Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz. Cleveland gave up three future first-round picks, two pick swaps, their 2022 first-round pick Ochai Agbaji, Lauri Markkanen, and Collin Sexton.
Cleveland will now have three All Stars from the 2022 All Star game and one of the top rookies from last season. Those players are Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, second-year player Evan Mobley, and now Donovan Mitchell. This gives them some of the top talent in the league. Unfortunately for them, the Eastern Conference is stacked as far as the top eight teams.
In the East contending teams have a ton of talent. The Cavaliers now might only have the eighth-most talented roster on paper in the conference.
Donovan Mitchell has been able to lead the Utah Jazz to the playoffs in the Western Conference every year since the 2018 playoffs. It may prove to be a tougher task to lead his new team to the playoffs this year.
This team will be exciting to watch regardless. Cleveland has two of the most exciting guards in the league as well as some nice veteran pieces in Kevin Love, Caris LeVert, and Ricky Rubio. They could surprise some people in the 2022 NBA season.
