Are the Kings for Real?

The Sacramento Kings have not made the NBA playoffs in 18 seasons. This year they are in second place in the Western Conference with just a few weeks remaining in the regular season. It is very likely that they will break that playoff drought but how good are they really? Should they be considered a title contender as the second seed in the West?

The Kings started off the season shakily with four losses in a row but quickly flipped the script. They are now 15 games above .500 and are second in the West. This team had two All Stars this year, De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis. They also have one of the top offenses in the league and score the most points per game. Their defense is a big question though.

So with Fox and Harrison Barnes still playing big minutes for this team like, they have the past four season that were all losing, what has changed with this team? They added a floor general. Fox is great but Sabonis is a general out there, getting triple doubles and setting up the offense. They also added scorers and shooters around Fox and Sabonis like Kevin Huerter and Malik Monk as well as rookie Keegan Murray.

This team looks great on paper and on offense. Their defense is the big question. They give up a ton of points and have no rim protection with Sabonis out there. A playoff series can be won, especially if they are the 2 seed playing a play-in team like Minnesota or the Lakers. A run to the finals where they have to beat Denver, Golden State, or the Clippers is an entirely different story.
