Biggest (Early) NBA Surprises so Far

San Antonio Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs were not expected to compete for the playoffs, and they maybe still are not expected to. But here is no ignoring their hot start. Victor Wembanyama was off to a slow start to his career before scoring 38 points in his last game. That came against the Spurs in their second win over the Phoenix Suns. The Spurs now are 3-2 to start the season. Devin Vassell and Keldon Johnson have looked like great second and third options as well.

Miami Heat

Now, we never expect this Heat team to show up until the playoffs, but this start has been a little bit ridiculous. The Heat have a record of just 1-4 and have lost to some bad teams like Minnesota and Brooklyn who have just two-combined wins outside of their wins over the Heat. Miami will likely figure it out soon and start winning some games. Not many people would have guessed they started out this way though.

Memphis Grizzlies

The only team without a win is the Memphis Grizzlies. This team finished second in the Western Conference last year and obviously are without Ja Morant to start the season. Other underrated losses for this team were Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke. Xavier Tillman has put up decent stats but is not on the level of Adams or even Clarke. This team looks really bad without a playmaker. People may now realize how important Tyus Jones was to this team as well.
