Biggest NBA Draft Surprises

The first round of the NBA Draft is complete. Let’s look at some of the biggest surprises of the draft so far.

Ron Holland jumps to 5th

Holland was the top player in the country in his class. He was also supposed to be a top pick. Months before the draft Holland was projected to be drafted as high as 8 and as low as 18. His range was wide but he even jumped above that range going 5th to the Detroit Pistons. Detroit is likely taking a chance on one of the players with the most potential in this draft.

Zach Edey goes top 10

The over-under on Zach Edey was around pick 20. The Memphis Grizzlies decided to use the 9th pick to select Edey. It was rumored they were interested in trading up for Donovan Clingan and still went big with Edey at pick 9.

Dalton Knecht slides

Some mock drafts had Dalton Knecht as high as pick 5 to Detroit. The senior out of Tennessee fell all the way down to pick 17 to the Los Angeles Lakers. Knecht is a big time scorer and has been compared to fellow Laker Austin Reaves and even Klay Thompson.
