Biggest NFL Draft Surprises

The first round of the NFL Draft has been completed and it was not without some controversy. Let’s look at some fo the biggest surprises that we saw from the first 32 picks.

Michael Penix Drafted 8 to Atlanta

If there was a position that the Atlanta Falcons did not need to address it was quarterback. The largest move this free-agency period was Kirk Cousins signing with the Falcons for a massive deal that will pay him $180 million over the next four years. With the 8th pick in the draft the Falcons could have drafted the top pass rusher in this class or offensive line help. Now, they will have to hold Penix back for four years, assuming Cousins is healthy or they don’t trade him for next few seasons at least.

Los Angeles Chargers Don’t Trade Back

There were tons of rumors that the Chargers wanted to trade back in the draft. They likely still could have got their guy Joe Alt or another top offensive linemen if they moved back to pick 10 or 11. Apparently, the Vikings were confident they didn’t have to move that far up for JJ McCarthy, and they were right.

Chicago Bears take another wide receiver

The Bears just traded for Keenan Allen and already had DJ Moore. Now, they used the 9th pick in the draft to take another top wide receiver who will likely be their third option. They could have got an offensive tackle or added to the defense.
