The middle of the Ball brothers, LiAngelo Ball, is in his second year in the NBA Summer League. In his first Summer League he averaged just under 10 points per game and shot the ball well from three. It wasn’t enough to get him a training camp invite with the Charlotte Hornets or another team, however.
He ended up playing in the NBA G-League for the Hornets’ affiliate team the Greensboro Swarm last season, and he had his ups and downs. Some games he was incredible and other games he never got off of the bench or played just a couple of minutes. His first G-League game he had 22 points, but he never got an NBA contract.
This Summer League began with him getting put into health and safety protocols, which caused him to miss the first game. He played in the second game but just for a few minutes.
In the third game though, he came in for five minutes in the first half and scored seven quick points on two layups and a three. That earned him seven more minutes in the second half as he knocked down another three and a driving layup. He had 12 total points in 12 minutes shooting 56% from the field.
If LiAngelo is able to make the training camp roster, he will have to provide more of this offensive spark for the Hornets. That would likely be what his role would be in the NBA, a scorer off the bench who can bring energy to the team.
