Does DeRozan Make the Kings a Contender?

The NBA’s Sacramento Kings completed a sign and trade to acquire DeMar DeRozan from the Chicago Bulls. The Kings were able to just part ways with a second-round pick, a pick swap, Harrison Barnes, and Chris Duarte in the deal. They then signed DeRozan to a three-year deal worth $74 million.

This marks as the Kings biggest free-agent acquisition ever. No other player of DeRozan’s caliber has ever signed with the Kings in free agency. DeRozan is a 6-time All Star and is coming off of three of his most productive years in the league even at his old age of 34 years. He averaged 24 points last year and the year before and 27 the year before that.

This move gives the Kings another scoring threat they very much needed. Besides D’Aaron Fox and Malik Monk, this team struggled to find a third scorer. They now have that bucket getter in DeRozan.

The main question will be on defense for the Kings. If they are able to get into the playoffs you have to wonder who on their team could defend Nikola Jokic for the Nuggets or the big men in Minnesota. That will be the question for this team because on offense they now look elite.
