Early NBA Playoff Surprises

Bucks at Wizards 1/15/18

The NBA Playoffs are always entertaining. In recent memory the first games of these playoffs from the play-in to the first games of round one have been memorable. Let’s look at some things that surprised us all.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The wild drama in Minnesota actually began before the play-in games when Rudy Gobert punched Kyle Anderson and then Jaden McDaniels broke his hand punching a wall. Gobert was suspended for the first play-in game but then came back for game two and the Wolves won. Now playing the Nuggets, they were not competitive in game one but could bounce back.

Upsets

The Lakers, Kings, Clippers, Knicks, and Heat all upset the higher seed in game one. The biggest surprises were the Lakers, Kings, and Heat though. These teams all were impressive and look like they could win the series now at this point after going up 1-0.

Injuries

Unfortunately, after just one game we have seen some major injuries. The biggest injuries were to Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo. These two could miss at least one game if not more, which could hurt their chances of advancing to round two. Another injury was to Tyler Herro and this will definitely hurt the Heat as they try to upset Milwaukee. He will be out 4-6 weeks.
