The FIBA USA Men’s team doesn’t feature the biggest stars in the NBA like the Olympic team usually will but they still look formidable out there. To be honest, the USA could probably field 10 or more complete teams of different players that would be competitive in this tournament.
This year the team is led by Anthony Edwards, who has taken on the main scoring role of the team. The other main pieces are Jalen Brunson, Tyrese Haliburton, Brandon Ingram, Mikal Bridges, and last year’s rookie of the year in the NBA, Paolo Banchero.
The main competition for the USA in FIBA is Canada who also features a ton of NBA players. The difference is that Canada is putting out some of their best players like Shai Gilgeous Alexander, Dillon Brooks, and RJ Barrett. They handled France by 30 points in their last game, a team with multiple NBA players including former multi-time All Star Rudy Gobert.
Without supreme NBA star power like Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, and Lebron James, this USA team still has what it takes to win gold. We have seen elevated play in particular from Anthony Edwards. A showdown in the finals between Team USA and Canada would be epic.
