Is it Too Soon to Call Justin Fields a Bust?

Yes, it absolutely is too soon to call Justin Fields a bust, but it has been a horrific start to the season for him. Fields was one of the most-hyped quarterbacks in the NFL this offseason and there were rumblings that he could take a massive leap and lead the Chicago Bears to a division title with an improved roster. So far the Bears have started the season 0-2 and lost both games by double digits.

Last season was a major improvement for Fields after his rookie campaign. He improved his completion percentage, threw 10 more touchdowns, threw less interceptions, and was an even more dynamic runner. Still the Bears were one of the worst teams in the entire league but there was hope for this year based on his improvements.

So far this year it seems he has regressed. He still wasn’t a great passer last year but running the ball he was super effective. In two games he hasn’t been nearly as effective on the ground and his passing percentage has been the same but he has already thrown three interceptions and just two touchdowns.

If the Bears can get back to running with Fields and making him effective that way, it should open up the pass a bit. What it really comes down to is if he can be a winning quarterback. The numbers would be great but winning is what really matters and he has yet to show that. The Bears should give him at least the rest of this season to show he can win.
