Is Ja Morant the Best Young Player in the NBA?

Ja Morant took this Memphis Grizzlies team to the NBA Playoffs last season. They had to fight through the play-in games to get that eighth seed in the West. Morant and the Grizzlies battled hard the first round and managed to win one game against the No. 1 seed Utah Jazz. In those five games against the Jazz, Morant averaged over 30 points and eight assists per game.

He ended the regular season last year averaging only 19 points per game, but that big-time playoff performance boosted his level of play for this year. Morant is now averaging just under 25 points per game about half way through the year. That is the same as Luka Doncic and just under Trae Young, two other young stars 23 or under.

The difference is that Ja Morant is winning this year. The Grizzlies are currently third in the West just below the Suns and Warriors led by Morant. Young may be averaging more points than Morant but his team is 12th in the East currently. Doncic may have higher assist numbers but his team is not as good and he is ineffective on the defensive end.

Morant recently made one of the most impressive defensive plays you will ever see that showed off his effort and athleticism. Also, Justin Timberlake tweeted out the highlight below stating Ja Morant should be an All Star.

Morant is making a strong case as one of the best players in the league right now, let alone best young player. Watch out for Morant and the Grizzlies this year.
