Jimmy G Back as the 49ers Starter

This offseason the San Francisco 49ers decided to move from Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback. In the 2021 NFL Draft the 49ers traded three first round picks to get Trey Lance. Starting this season they decided to make him their starting quarterback.

This meant that the 49ers were looking to trade Jimmy G and his big contract. They ended up finding no trade partners but signed him on a new deal for far less money to be the backup to Lance. Garoppolo had a record of 31-14 with the 49ers as the starter. That is one of the best records for a starter in the NFL over the past few seasons.

After a loss in the season opener for the 49ers and Lance, he still started the second game but suffered a serious injury to his ankle. It is expected to be season ending, unfortunately.

Jimmy G came in as the backup after the injury that Lance sustained and he won the game for San Francisco over their rival, the Seattle Seahawks.

Now Jimmy G will likely be the starter for the rest of the season if he can remain healthy. There is no saying what the future holds for Lance but Jimmy G will have another chance to lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
