The Detroit Lions pulled off the upset and comeback win over the Chiefs on Thursday in the opening night of the 2023 NFL season. Down 7-14 at half and then 14-20 in the second half, the Lions managed to score a third touchdown and win the game by one point 21-20.
This game displayed how good this Lions team could be. Their offensive line was dominant allowing David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs to run freely. Jared Goff also made plays when it counted down the stretch, especially on the Lions’ final touchdown drive. Detroit looked really good and could push to win the NFC North if they keep this level of play up.
For the Chiefs, it is way too soon to panic. Not making any excuses but the team lacked pass rushing and Chris Jones who is one of the best in the league didn’t play. The team also lacked a reliable target and Travis Kelce the best tight end in the league didn’t play. Kansas City will be fine but may need to trade for a veteran wide receiver as the young guys looked pretty bad.
Overall it was a good win for the Lions who could be NFC North favorites right now and the Chiefs will be fine once they get their guys back.
