Missed Interception Costs 49ers a Super Bowl Trip

The San Francisco 49ers had a memorable season that ended Sunday night. After beginning the year with a record of just 2-4, this team went on a hot streak, winning nine out of 11 games at one point this year. That included winning two games to end the regular season, both of which were needed to just make the playoffs.

The 49ers had won their last six games against the Los Angeles Rams, that included two wins against them this year in the regular season. They had to beat the Rams to just make the playoffs in week 18.

After making the playoffs, the 49ers battled to upset the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers to face the Rams yet again.

This NFL Conference Title matchup was a close fought game all the way. With just nine minutes remaining in the game, the 49ers were up by three. The Rams’ Matt Stafford threw a deep ball that was right to the 49ers Jaquiski Tartt. Tartt had possibly the easiest interception opportunity of his career. It fell right through his arms.

The Rams went on to score a field goal that possession instead of turning the ball over to the 49ers. Making that interception would have likely put the 49ers inside Rams’ territory and close to a 49ers field goal.

It is not guaranteed, but it would have arguably been an almost guaranteed six-point swing in a game that the 49ers lost by just three points.
