The first ever NBA In-Season Tournament has ended and it was quite a successful first year. The Los Angeles Lakers won the trophy and celebrated with champagne in the locker room. Lebron James won the MVP of the tournament which takes into account all of the games played in the elimination rounds.
Most NBA teams didn’t participate in the elimination rounds as just eight teams qualified. To qualify teams played in group stage games earlier in the year that counted towards their record to be included in the tournament section in December. These games were highly competitive. Teams were not only trying harder to win these games, but they also were trying to win by the most points they could as point differential was crucial for the tiebreaker to qualify.
The tournament games were electric and we saw the Indiana Pacers play at an extremely fast pace on offense as they are built around Tyrese Haliburton who is the leading assist man in the league as well as three-point shooters, including Haliburton.
They were able to beat Boston and Milwaukee to advance while the Lakers stepped up their defense for these games to get to the finals.
In the championship game Anthony Davis stepped up big time after Lebron did in the first two games. Davis scored 41 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Players and fans have joked that this championship doesn’t mean anything but will it in a few years as this progresses? Perhaps, and Lebron and the Lakers have won the first one.
