Kyrie Irving of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets played in his first home game of the year on Sunday when the Nets took on the Charlotte Hornets. Irving was limited to only playing road games before as New York City laws prohibited unvaccinated players from playing in their home city.
Irving is still unvaccinated, but New York City changed the laws that allowed him to make his home debut. The home debut was successful for Irving based on his stat line: 16 points, 11 assists, and two blocks in 41 minutes.
The crowd was ecstatic to get Irving back playing at Barclays. However, he did not shoot well as he went 1-9 from three maybe due to this being the first game he has played in this arena since last season.
Most importantly, the Nets lost the game to the Hornets 110-119.
The Nets are still looking like they will be a part of the NBA’s play-in games in just a few weeks. Many people still have the Nets as one of the favorites to win the NBA Finals this year. It will definitely help having Kyrie full time now, but this team still has a lot to work out beyond that.
