NFL Season Opener Preview

The Detroit Lions will kick off the NFL season on Thursday in Kansas City against the Chiefs. The Chiefs are expected to win this game but it should be a high-scoring matchup. Both of these teams have above-average offenses, especially Kansas City, and these teams also have below average defenses on paper. It’s also unlikely that Kansas City’s best defensive player Chris Jones won’t play in this game.

All of this makes for a very fun season opener. Fans love to watch Patrick Mahomes and against Detroit he should thrive. It will also be interesting to see how the Lions build on their strong finish to last season when they won eight of their final 10 games. Detroit’s offense got better by adding Jahmyr Gibbs who is a do-it-all running back and Sam Laporta, a high-upside tight end.

There are a couple things that could swing this game in favor of Detroit. The first is that Detroit is better than people think this year after improving their roster following a very successful second-half of last season and the second is that Kansas City is flat in week one, which can happen to any team. It should make for an exciting NFL opener.
