Three NFL teams have a playoff drought of six years or longer. We ranked which of those three is the most likely to end that playoff drought in 2023.
1. New York Jets
The Jets have gone 12 years since making the playoffs but they have a new No. 12 in town, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has led the Green Bay Packers to the playoffs 11 times and he will look to have that same impact this year for the Jets. Last season the Jets were extremely close to making it to the playoffs behind their strong defense but had a big problem, their quarterback play. Bring in Rodgers and this team should have what it takes to make it this season.
2. Detroit Lions
The Lions finished second in the NFC North behind the team with one of the best records in the league last year, the Minnesota Vikings. It was a rough start to the season in 2022 as the Lions lost six of their first seven games. The season appeared to be lost until the team all of a sudden clicked, especially on offense, and won eight of their last ten games to finish with a winning record of 9-8. There is a lot to build on in one of the weaker divisions in the NFL and the Lions could even win the division outright.
3. Denver Broncos
Being that there are only three teams that make up this list, the Broncos had to make it in here. This offense was atrocious last season and didn’t make many moves to upgrade it either. They will have to rely on a huge improvement from Russell Wilson to make the playoffs. It also really doesn’t help that they are in the toughest division in the league with Kansas City, the Chargers, and Las Vegas.
