Quarterback is the most important position on the field in the NFL. Without a top QB a team may struggle to make the playoffs for years. Teams are always looking for the next best player at the position. Let’s look at some teams who may go into Week 1 of 2023 with a new starting quarterback.
Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders have basically said they are finally moving on from Derek Carr. Carr has been with the Raiders since the 2014 season and has made just two playoff appearances that both ended after a Wildcard game loss. It may be hard to find a replacement better than him but Lamar Jackson and Jimmy G are two that could be possibilities.
Atlanta Falcons
The Falcons went into the season with an experiment at QB in Marcus Mariota. He was replaced at the end of the year and it may be permanent. Rookie Desmond Ridder had some moments at the end of the season that could warrant him being the starter in Week 1 of 2023 for them. Atlanta could also draft a QB at pick No. 7 or sign Lamar Jackson.
Indianapolis Colts
Matt Ryan was supposed to be the guy to take this fringe playoff team to the postseason this year. It didn’t work out and he was benched on two different occasions. He is likely going to be cut so they don’t have to pay him his full salary next season. Next year’s starter could be this season’s rookie Sam Ehlinger or a new rookie QB they take with their fourth overall selection in the draft.
