Offensively blunt Belfast Giants lost further ground in the Elite League title race losing 4-1 to Sheffield Steelers at the FlyDSA Arena. It was yet another significant blow in their journey to defend their Elite League title. Giants took seven minor penalties and a major penalty in conceding three power-play goals to fall to a 4-1 defeat losing further ground in the Elite League title race. Giants now trail the Steelers by six points with a game in hand.
David Goodwin netted his 12th goal of the season after five minutes putting Belfast Giants ahead before Canadian forward Antony De Luca responded by leveling things up in style a minute later after beating Shane Owen.De Luca completed his brace in the second period before Mark-Olivier Vallerand and Brendan Connoly scored one each rounding out a comprehensive victory for the Sheffield Steelers
With the loss, Belfast Giants now trail Sheffield Steelers by six points at the top of the standings with just nine games left to play in the regular season, their record now sitting at 26-16-3 after a disappointing one-point weekend following their 5-4 overtime loss to the Manchester Storm on Saturday.
