No. 6 Ohio State were the favorites coming into the Rose Bowl against No. 11 Utah but the Utes came out strong. Utah was up early 14 to nothing and then the second quarter so a massive amount of touchdowns as each team had three in the second. At one point during the second quarter there were three touchdowns scored as just less than a minute of game clock time had passed on the clock. Still the Utah Utes had a 14 point lead at halftime.
Ohio State mounted their comeback in the second half and finally tied the game up in the fourth quarter. They then managed to take their first lead of the game going up 45-38 with just over five minutes left in the game. Utah tied the game once more but Ohio State had the ball last and made a field goal in the final seconds to win 49-45.
Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud threw for a ridiculous 573 yards and six touchdowns as his wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 347 receiving yards and three of those touchdown catches. Utah played a hard fought game behind the rushing and passing attack of quarterback Cameron Rising but it was not enough to hold the lead to win against Ohio State.
