events

The 22nd  edition of the FIFA world cup is set to happen in 2022 in Qatar. Qatar won the bid to host the 22nd edition of the FIFA WORLD CUP on 2nd Dec 2010 despite numerous protests from football stakeholders and activists. Temperatures in Qatar gets unbearably high during the summer, where daily temperatures are known to reach 40 degrees Celcius and above. Temperatures ranging from 105 degrees Fahrenheit can lead to bodies of athletes suffering from heatstroke whereby the body temperatures elevate dramatically risking dehydration and heat exhaustion.

Modern football has become more of a high-intensity sport where player performance is characterized by total distance covered in a game meaning physical attributes like high-speed running and sprint distance directly influence the game outcome. If a player suffers from heatstroke, he experiences a reduction in high-speed running which in turn, leads to under-par performance.
