ESPN’s Tim MacMahon hinted that things could go “haywire” this summer for the Philadelphia 76ers that could lead to this NBA season’s MVP Joel Embiid requesting a trade. Let’s look at a few trade scenarios that could benefit Philadelphia if this becomes true.
New York Knicks
This trade has been rumored the most. It would send Embiid and Daniel House Jr. to the Knicks. In return, the Philadelphia 76ers would receive Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, Obi Toppin, as well as the Knicks’ 2027 and 2029 first-round draft picks. The 76ers would get a solid young center, an All Star forward and Toppin, who still has high upside. The Knicks could create a nice core with Embiid, Jalen Brunson, and RJ Barrett.
Houston Rockets
The Rockets have too many young players and they seem to be all stunting each other’s growth. A huge rebuild would ship four of their young players to Philadelphia for Embiid. Houston would send Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Jasean Tate, and Jabari Smith Jr. to the 76ers for Embiid, straight up, or maybe with picks added too. The Rockets would still have some young talent like Tari Eason, Kevin Porter Jr., and Kenyon Martin Jr., and have been rumored to be targeting James Harden or Jaylen Brown as well.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks need a shake up their roster and getting Embiid would be a major move. Atlanta would have to give the 76ers a ton of picks as they don’t have much young talent to offer. They could offer two good young big men in Onyeka Okongwu and Jalen Johnson plus Clint Capela and four first-round picks for Embiid. Not only would Philadelphia get Okongwu, Johnson and all these picks, but also they would save six million in cap space.
