It has been an up and down season for the San Francisco 49ers but now there is little debate that they are the top team in the NFL. To start the season this team looked great. They won their first five games, including beating the Cowboys for their fifth win of the season by 32 points with a score of 42-10.
Then the injury bug bit them. Their All-Pro tackle Trent Williams missed some games as well as Deebo Samuel. They lost to the Cleveland Browns in their sixth game due to some missed field goals and untimely penalties which caused an overall downslide. The 49ers went on to lose the next two games and three straight overall.
After a bye week the 49ers were almost fully healthy, getting back some of their top players. Also, a lot had been made of the decline of Brock Purdy over those three losses in a row but he and the team proved they were still formidable. They beat Jacksonville to get back in the win column in a decisive win, 34-3, and the Jaguars were 6-2 at the time.
From there the 49ers won the next two games over Tampa Bay and Seattle with ease before facing Philadelphia. The rematch of the NFC Championship game went the 49ers’ way as they stomped on Philadelphia to give them just their second loss of the season.
Before that game some people may have considered either Philadelphia or San Francisco the top team in the league but now there is no real argument to be made for anyone but the 49ers.
