The Tight NBA Western Conference Race

The Western Conference in the NBA is extremely close for the last handful of playoff spots. Let’s look at how it may go down for the last 15 games in the regular seaosn.

As it stands the Clippers are in 4th, Pelicans in 5th, and the Kings in 6th. All with guaranteed playoff spots if the season ended right now. Ahead of them are the Timberwolves, Thunder, and Nuggets, who are 4 games ahead of the 4th-seeded Clippers.

4th through 10th is extremely close. We have the Suns, Mavericks, Lakers, and Warriors in the the 7th through 10th spot. All of these teams should be live to get the 6th spot.

In the end the play-in games in the West will be electric. Right now it seems very likely that both the Warriors and Lakers will be in the play in. The last two spots will be two of the Kings, Pelicans, Mavericks, Clippers, and Suns.

Then it gets really interesting because we have some really good teams that will be vying for the 6th, 7th, and 8th spot. This will immediately put the Nuggets up against a tough opponent and unproven teams, the Thunder and Timberwolves, will be at a high risk of losing in the first round as well.

The West is extremely tough and two of the teams mentioned in this article will not make the playoffs while it seems likely that at least one of the top 3 teams is live to lose in the first round of the playoffs.
