The NFL has put so much emphasis on offense that great defenses are sometimes overlooked. The Los Angeles Rams showed why it is still equally as important to have a great defense as they won the Super Bowl last year largely in part to their strong defense.
3. New Orleans Saints
The Saints may be one of the most underrated teams heading into the 2022 season. This is mostly due to the defense being looked passed. New Orleans had one of the best secondaries in the NFL last year as they held opposing quarterbacks to the fourth worst passer rating in the league. They also have an underrated pass rush with Cam Jordan and Marcus Davenport. The Saints went out and signed playmakers as well in Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
A big part of the recent success for Tampa Bay has been due to their defense. After having a top-10 defense in the league last year, the Bucs will be returning nearly all of their starters again. They replaced Jason Pierre-Paul with another veteran in Akiem Hicks, who could prove to be an upgrade. Tom Brady will rarely put this defense in a bad position as well.
1. Buffalo Bills
The Bills may have the best defense and offense in the NFL. This is why they have been picked as the Super Bowl betting favorites in the preseason. Buffalo had a great defense last year but lacked an elite pass rusher which they got in Von Miller. They also used their first-round pick to get a starting corner in Kaiir Elam.
