The NHL free agency period started out with a ton of the top free agents singing big and lengthy deals. There are still some top free agents remaining out there, however. A few of them are surprising that they haven’t been picked up yet:
1. Nazem Kadri Centerman
One of the best unrestricted free agents to hit the market was the 2022 Stanley cup winner, Nazem Kadri. After arguably his best season in the NHL he was expected to get a large deal in free agency. It will likely still happen for Kadri, but he reportedly wants to play for a contender next year. Some teams may have to free up some cap space to sign him.
2. John Klingberg Defenseman
John Klingberg was widely thought of as the second-best defenseman on the free agent market. The first was Kris Letang, who resigned with Pittsburgh shortly after free agency started. Klingberg is still available, and it looks like there might not be as many teams out there lining up for his services as many people had thought. Still, he should be a nice pickup for any team.
3. Nino Niederreiter Right Wing
Niederreiter is still just 29-years-old and can help any team with his goal-scoring ability. In the past two years he had 20 and then 24 goals during the regular season. He likely won’t be the top goal-scorer or a star on any team he goes to, but he is an above average player that could improve just about any team.
