The Los Angeles Lakers have already done the unthinkable this season. They went from an NBA Championship win in 2020, to a first-round exit in 2021, to missing the playoffs in 2022, and then starting the 2023 season 2-10. Now they find themselves in the Western Conference Finals, one series away from the NBA Finals after getting here from the play-in tournament.
NBA History
The Los Angeles Lakers have 17 NBA championships and the Boston Celtics have 17 as well. They are tied for the most in NBA history. A championship would give the Lakers the current title of winningest NBA franchise. These two teams could very well meet up in the finals this year too, which would make for an epic NBA Finals.
LeBron’s Legacy
The second-biggest factor on the line is LeBron’s legacy. For the first time ever LeBron James may be showing some signs of slowing down. In the playoffs so far he is averaging just 23 points per game, but he is still averaging 10 rebounds and 2.2 blocks plus steals though.
A championship this season would be the fifth of his career, just one behind Michael Jordan who is widely considered the best or second best player ever to LeBron. LeBron has won with three different teams and has won finals MVP in all of his championships.
