Russell Westbrook did not have a good year in his first season with the Lakers. While his stats didn’t look bad (18.5 points, 7.1 assists, 7.4 rebounds) he was what some people in the NBA call a black hole. He shot terrible percentages (29% from three and 66% from the line) but the real troubles were his play style of going 1 on 1 and taking poor shots.
It has been rumored since the trade deadline last season that the Lakers were trying to trade him. Now, it is rumored that if they can’t trade him they could bench him for good. That would put him in a situation similar to what John Wall was in last year with Houston where he didn’t suit up for a single game
The Lakers could feel that Westbrook is more detrimental to the team than he is helpful at this point. They just traded for another point guard in Patrick Beverley and have Kendrick Nunn and Lebron James who can all run the point as well.
The most recent trade rumor involving Westbrook includes him with a first-round pick in exchange for Buddy Hield and Myles Turner from the Indiana Pacers.
Whatever happens with Westbrook, it looks like it his last game could have been his final with the Lakers.
