What the NBA Draft Lottery Means

The NBA Draft Lottery took place on Tuesday night as the Spurs got the No. 1 pick followed by the Charlotte Hornets, then the Portland Blazers. Let’s look at what it means for each of these teams.

1. San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs will undoubtedly draft Victor Wembanyama with the first overall pick. He has been called the best NBA prospect since LeBron or even ever. He is 7’2″ but plays like a small forward. A good NBA comparison would be a taller Kevin Durant. Wembanyama has the ability to change an NBA franchise and should immediately average over 20 points per game and possibly lead the Spurs to a play-in spot in the West next year.

2. Charlotte Hornets

The Hornets missed out on Wembanyama, which would have been fun to watch him and LaMelo Ball together but Scoot Henderson is a great consolation prize, if they take him. Henderson has a similar game to Terry Rozier, who is already on the Hornets roster. The Hornets could decide to draft Henderson and trade Rozier. Ball and Henderson could make a dangerous backcourt for years to come.

3. Portland Blazers

If Henderson falls to Portland it should be an easy choice, even with Dame Lillard and Anfernee Simons being their two best players and playing the same position as Henderson. Most likely they will choose between Brandon Miller, Amen Thompson, or Taylor Hendricks.

The best fit seems to be Brandon Miller who is a slashing wing who can also score the ball. If he can have an impact similar to what Keegan Murray had for Sacramento last season but score a little more, this team could get a play-in spot or even a playoff spot.
